Golf is a sport that requires precision and consistency. Golfers struggle to execute their golf-swing plane consistently during their drive, approach, chip and putt strokes, resulting in dissatisfaction. The Golf Swing Path (GSP) Trainer is a newly developed training aid for golfers that provides an excellent visual guide for swing plane, club path, and ball contact impact. It can improve the ball's swing plane, path, and contact impact. It aids in adjusting the accuracy of the plane angle to put golfers in the optimal position for a more consistent ball flight with better contact. It can consistently provide instant and accurate visual feedback. It also aids in correcting and adjusting the swing plane so that the swing and path are optimised for optimal contact and consistent ball flight. The GSP trainer consists of a solid base with a pivot point in the centre of the base to locate and adjust the angle of the swing plane to accommodate the club's height and length. It is compact, portable, lightweight, and stable, making it an essential training aid for all golfers.

Problem Statement

  • Malaysia has been a drought in golf at the SEA Games since 2001 (21 years).
  • For proper ball flight and direction, which is challenging to master and frequently necessitates the use of a training aid.
  • Unfortunately, there are no training aids that provide a visual imagery line of the path of the golf club during a golf swing.
  • Traditional golf training aids are sharp and dangerous, lack of angle adjustment, difficult to set up, expensive, lack a "T" side, are unstable, and are easily broken (plastic).

Novelty and Inventiveness

  • The Golf Swing Path trainer consists of a solid base with a swivel point at the base centre to locate and adjust the angle of the swing plane to facilitate the height and length of the club.
  • The golfers’ alignment sticks are attached to it, enabling golfers to adjust their swing plane and avoid hitting the sticks.

  • Raised RM40,000 for Down Syndrome Centre, Kota Bharu in 2022.

Impact of Innovation

  • Government: Ended Malaysia’s 21-year SEA Games medal drought in golf. It is aligned with SDG 3 (Good health and Wellbeing) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
  • Industry: Can train golfers as young as 7 years old. Partners with Access Hitech Automation S/B to develop accurate GSP training aid.
  • Economic: 6 sessions of GSP training aid showed a significant enhancement in performance, with 22% in distance, 15% in accuracy, and 14% in speed.
  • Society: It is compact, portable, safe, easy, lightweight, and stable, making it an essential training aid for all golfers, regardless of age, gender, and level of playing.
  • Academia: It is used by university’s co-curriculum as a training aid to teach university students. We are collaborating with Seoul National University of Science and Technology and Burapha University, Thailand.
